Both men and women will get equal wages for equal work in the NCDDP. This is because it is fundamental human rights and men and women are equally contributed for their time and effort at the same condition of work. In addition, equal work opportunities should be created for women and men and extra support should be provided so that women can participate in equal work with men. Therefore, whatever obstacles that hampers women to take part in needs to be eliminated. This principles applies to both work that is implemented by the community as well as work outsourced to contractors.

NCCDP encourages gender equality and women’s empowerment through the following requirements.

  • Gender balance is required for village support committee (50:50)
  • Each of the sub committees include men and women
  • One male and one female are head of the project support committee
  • At lease one sub project per village tract is suggested by a women group and should be implemented every year
  • Equal pay for equal work
  • Gender mainstreaming in every stage of the project

NCDDP aims to enable poor rural communities to benefit from improve access to and use of basic infrastructure and services through a people-centered approach and to enhance the capacity. Therefore, it is also an important to include gender perspectives in the process.

This is because consideration of gender perspectives in the implementation of basic infrastructure development is still need to improve. Since people who use those infrastructures are children, elderly and disabled including male and female, planning and implementation should be based on their needs. It is necessary to get equal rights between men and women in decision-making and consideration of different perceptions. By providing opportunities to participate women in construction at where they are capable of, they will have access job opportunities, as well as knowledge on technologies related to the construction could be achieved. It also aims to achieve shared and valued practices to all men and women.
